Important things to know when coming to the women’s shelter
If you want to leave your home, your safety is the most important thing. The staff member on the emergency hotline will give you important tips on how to safely leave the apartment with your children.
If it is safe to do so, take important items with you. For example:
- Mobile phone
- Documents
- Passports (including those of your children)
- Keys
- Medication
If you cannot pack things safely, the women’s shelter provides clothing and hygiene products. We will also support you if you wish to retrieve items from the apartment at a later time.

Who is allowed to come to the women’s shelter?
Any woman experiencing violence at home. It does not matter where you come from, how old you are, whether you have an income, or what residency status you hold.
Can I take my children with me to the women’s shelter?
Children up to the age of 18 may come with you and will receive their own care. Daughters may also be older than 18.
Can my home help/home nursing service also support me at the women’s shelter?
Yes. Mobile care services can also come to the women’s shelter.
Can I live in the women’s shelter if I have no income?
Yes. Income, origin, and religion do not matter.
Will I be provided with food?
Yes, every woman receives basic food items. There are kitchens where you can prepare your own meals.
Am I allowed to come and go as I please at the women’s shelter?
During the day, you can come and go as you wish. There are quiet hours during the night.
What happens if I arrive at the women’s shelter without my belongings?
Every shelter has a basic supply of clothing and hygiene products.
Do I have to report my partner to the police if I come to the women’s shelter?
No, at the women’s shelter you will receive important information regarding your rights. You make your own decisions.
Am I allowed to have visitors at the women’s shelter?
No, the addresses of the women’s shelters are secret. To protect all residents, you are not permitted to share the address.
What if I do not speak German?
That is not a problem; we work with female interpreters.
